The Morgantown church of Christ first starting supporting Winston Bolt in 1985 when he attended Sunset School of Preaching. Then sponsored his mission work to Indonesia starting in July of 1987. Since that time Mission Indonesia as grown beyond our wildest imagination. From the jungles of Irian Jaya, New Guinea where he first entered Indonesia the Lord moved him to West Java and to South Sulawesi. In October of 1990 I spoke at the Pasir Panjang church of Christ in Singapore and they asked me to start a church on the island of Batam just across from the Singapore harbor. He moved there in 1991 and started a church in a small building that they had rented for them. Since that time they have baptized over 400 souls and there are three congregations on the island.
In 1998 Winston started Batam Bible College with a class of five men, in the same rented facility as a branch of Sunset International Bible Institute. In 2003 the Lord blessed us with the funds to build a 10,000 sq. ft. facility that allows us to bring in students from across the entire country as we can house forty students which allows the students to focus totally on their studies. He started by teaching 32 Sunset courses in a two year period of time while translating all the courses into the Indonesia language, which took 7 years. The greatest blessing that the Lord as given is the brethren who make up our full-time teaching staff of nine men and one women, and two adjunct instructors and is headed by the director Dj Pasaribut Ph.D. He used to teach 32 courses but now he teaches two in the two year program and two in our Bachelor’s degree program. All our primary instructors have or will have a Master’s Degree or a Ph.D. within the next two years. This has allowed them to qualify to be an accredited school of theology in Indonesia, which allows them to bestow a Bachelor’s Degree to those that earn it. They have graduated many students from across the entire country.
These graduates allowed them to start a church planting and development program in 2000 which encompasses the country from Batam to Sumatra, Nias, Java, Kalimatan (Borneo), Sulawesi, and Papua, New Guinea. Since that time they have planted over 60 churches in all these major islands. However, the greatest blessing of the Lord has been opening our eyes to how we can develop these churches to be indigenous congregations that will support future church plantings and development and Batam Bible College with the next ten to fifteen years. This method of development is simply called discipleship which is simply following the final command of Christ “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,” This is how the church was started and developed which resulted in an expansion beyond comprehension. We can do the same thing today by simply calling people to follow Jesus and showing them the way and teaching them to make other disciples (2Tim 2:2), and thier training manual is the bible.
What they have done is simply to follow the will of God and He is the power behind all that has been done. 1John 5:14-15 “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.”
