January 2007
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Mission Indonesia wishes you a blessed life in year 2007. Year 2006 was a good year for Mission Indonesia as we completed the church building in Batam, graduated six men from Batam Bible College, and planted a church in the major city of Pontianak, Kalimatan and our students planted numerous new churches in Nias.
Thank you to all who showed such wonderful hospitality and love to me during my trip to America. Thank you to all who expressed their faith by supporting me, the mission teams and Batam Bible College. I pray that your faith will be blessed by our progress in proclaiming the gospel of Christ to the lost of Indonesia.
Since my return to Indonesia in late November we have been busy planning and adjusting our programs to make them more efficient. This planning involves the development of the Batam church of Christ and Batam Bible College. The Batam church of Christ is our laboratory for the application of the courses that we teach in BBC. This year we are working on the development of the Christian home and congregational evangelism. We also held seminars for the teachers in BBC and mission team leaders. These involved developing the curriculum of BBC and the practical application of courses in the field. In conjunction with the Department of Education and Religion we have prepared a program where all our teachers will study for their S1 degree which will qualify them as teachers of religion in the eyes of the government. This will be the bases for our third term program.
The first week of January I left on a journey to visit all the mission teams that we have in Java, Sulawesi, Kalimatan, and Sumatra. I first flew to the city of Solo in Central Java where I met with the brothers Yonathan and Radius who make up the mission team there. We arranged two meetings with the leaders of the four congregations that have been planted in that area. Our main topic was the responsibly of the local church to assume responsibility in leadership, financial, and teaching areas. I also met with three different groups who had been contacted by the evangelists in Solo, who had expressed an interest in following the pattern of New Testament Christianity. I was greatly encouraged by the responses from the men of the church and the groups that we contacted, which could lead to conversion of their entire congregations. We are planting the seed and now have to wait on the Lord to produce the result.
My journey was cut short as the flu invaded my body in a big way in the second week. I still debated whether I should continue on until I looked at the weather report. This is the monsoon season when we get very heavy storms and a plane had just crashed in Sulawesi near the area where I was going. Also city of Pontianak has been in a flood stage for the last week with no end in sight. For these reasons I felt it would be best if I returned to Batam to get well and prepare for the opening of classes on January 25.
We thank you for your prayers and contributions to this work and pray that the Lord will continue to bless us all by producing the fruit from our labors.
Your servant in Christ
