Dear Brother and Sisters in Christ,
The Mission to Indonesia is a comprehensive mission work, meaning that the work encompasses all that is needed from the from the first proclamation of the gospel to the final goal maturing of indigenous churches which is the primary goal of this mission. This is accomplished through three basic programs, which are the Batam church of Christ as a pattern church, the Batam Bible College to prepare the men to lead and minister to the new congregations, and native missionaries and mission teams to plant and develop mature and indigenous congregations.
CHURCH PLANTING - BATAM CHURCH OF CHRIST - An example to all of Indonesia 1 Thessolonians1:6-7
The church has approximately one hundred attending two services in the morning and evening. They have an active leadership of eight servants of the Lord (practical training to become elders and deacons) who meet regularly to make decisions concerning the direction of the church. They also have four active ministers who share the preaching, teaching, evangelism and counseling. Except for the rented facilities they pay their own preachers and operating cost of the church. They have become a pattern for other new congregations to follow.
In my absence these last six months they have operated efficiently and effectively resulting in five baptisms and three marriages. They preached through the book of Revelations and truly opened an understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ to the church. They have overseen the construction of our new school facilities. They have finished preparations for the construction of a new church building, as the land is now cleared and ready for construction. The cost of the church building is $45,000 and up to this time we have raised half of it or $22,500. Which means we still need the remaining $22,500 and ask that if you can help in this worthy endeavor please send your contributions to Madigan Avenue church of Christ, 463 Madigan Ave. Morgantown, WV 26501 and designate it church building. Thank you.
BATAM BIBLE COLLEGE - Is a tool to prepare the leadership and ministers of the church who will have the capability to plant and develop indigenous congregations to maturity. The Lord blessed my efforts in America by having churches through out the country contribute a total of $67,000 plus $20,000 in commitments for next year. This allowed us to begin construction of the building. The building is nearing the 50% completion mark and we will have to start making three monthly payments of $35,000 each and a final payment of $10,000. It is obvious that we are far short of the total and ask that you help all that you can. We have eighteen students registered to begin classes on February 1, 2004 from the islands of Sulawesi, Java, Sumatera, Nias, and Batam. At this time our previous graduates are working in all of these areas planting and developing the church according to the New Testament practices and principles.
I am blessed to report that Brother Henry Green a true brother of faith has borrowed $80,000 to make sure that the construction process continues without delay because of lack of funds. We are praying that the church at large will show the same faith in this work by contributing the funds to pay for this loan and the remainder that is needed to finish this project. Your contributions can be sent to Madigan Avenue church of Christ, 463 Madigan Ave. Morgantown, WV 26501 and designate it for School Building. Thank you.
MISSION TEAMS - Solo Java, and Duri, Sumatera.
SOLO - JAVA - We started the work in the city of Solo a year ago and now we have two established congregations located there. This was the result of planting three congregations in the villages outside of Solo. The church in Joyokarta has 22 baptized members and the church in Palur has 38 baptized members. These two congregations from Solo will be sending nine men and two women to the school for training in ministry and leadership. This mission team of Yonathan, Herry, and Radius are supported by the Westover Hills church of Christ in Austin, TX and Mike and Kim Walker.
DURI - SUMATERA - This work started last August and is overseen by the Batam church of Christ. The three men Jannes Heryanto, and Purba are recent graduates of the Batam Bible College. The Duri mission team is supported by members of the church who are working in that area, brothers Bubba Warren and Robert Hulett and brother Charles Dubois from Ohio. The team reported that they had started meeting with a group of eighteen people for bible study and worship. They have baptized one person since beginning. The church in Batam visits them each month to encourage and continue their training.
NATIONAL MISSIONARY - Dj Pasaribu
Brother Pasaribu has made his visa application to the American Embassy in Jakarta and is waiting for his appointment to receive his student visa to attend Sunset International Bible Institute. He has been very busy in Jakarta protecting the church building in Jakarta from some men who have tried to take possession of it. The good news is that the church has united around the threat and growing stronger. We are thankful for men of courage and determination like him. We have received funding for his first year of studies but still lack the commitments for the following year. We want to give our special thanks to the Bixby church of Christ and the Moon family from the Lackland church of Christ who contributed so richly to his support.
God Bless you all.
Your servant in Christ
